Description

First Tamiya model in my little collection. It was my first encounter with Tamiya kits (I never regretted it for one second). The decalcs are quite difficult to apply reasonably well. Personnally, I cut them in shorter length. For some reason I had left that kit aside for some years. The kit was almost finished, it only needed the decalc. Well, they lost some of their colors, actual the white strips became more yellowish. This is why they don't show as white on the pictures.

The engine detail is well done. However, since it was my first kit of that precision from Tamiya and my second real big scale kit, the result isn't what it should be. This kit's strength is in the engine detail. The carburators are made of wire mesh that you have to form yourself! Really impressive.

Addition

March 2nd 2001: I painted the wheel lettering some months ago. Finally, after 10 years or so!

Historique

This car was introduced in 1979.

Pilotes : Jody Scheckter (world champion 1979) , Gilles Villeneuve (second place in 1979 championship).

Conclusion

Superb kit. This Ferrari's silhouet is impressive and should be looked (even if Enzo Ferrari named it the worst looking Ferrari ever!). A "must" in every F1 collection. Very good details and precise fittings (Tamiya all the way).
